Dr. Adriana Manygoats de Julio, MD, MSPH, ABPN, ABPAA, DFAPA
Dr. Manygoats de Julio is a board-certified neuropsychiatrist with extensive experience in both clinical practice and leadership within the field of psychiatry and neuropsychiatry. With over a decade of experience, they currently hold various roles, including serving as the Medical Director for Aurora Mental Health and Recovery's Intensive Outpatient Clinics in Denver and as a Neuropsychiatrist at Logan Correctional Center in Illinois.
Dr. Manygoats de Julio's education includes a Neuropsychiatry Fellowship from Harvard Medical School at Massachusetts General Hospital, where they extended their fellowship for a second year before leaving to start their Army service obligation. They completed their Psychiatry Residency at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Illinois and earned a Certificate in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy from the Integrative Psychiatric Institute. In addition, they hold an MD from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, an MS in Public Health with a focus on Environmental Disaster Management from Tulane School of Public Health, and a BA in Mathematics from St. John’s College.
In addition to clinical practice, they hold several leadership roles, including being the Assembly Representative for the American Indian Caucus at the APA, an executive member of the Denver Medical Society, and the chairperson for the Colorado Psychiatric Society DEI committee. They have contributed to the field with over 20 publications and presentations, including contributions to Psychiatric News and chapters in the Handbook of Community Psychiatry, and has been featured as a panelist at several prominent conferences, including the American Psychiatric Association’s Annual Conference. Board-certified in both Neurology and Psychiatry and additional certification in Adolescent and Young Adult psychiatry their expertise spans a broad range of neuropsychiatric conditions, including traumatic brain injury, functional neurological disorders, PTSD, and severe persistent mental illness.
Dr. Manygoats de Julio is an active member of several professional societies and has been instrumental in research on social determinants of mental health and climate change’s impact on Indigenous communities. Their research explores the impact of climate change on mental health within Indigenous communities focusing on increases in suicide rates and infant mortality. Their career continues to be defined by a commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and advancing the fields of neurology and psychiatry. They are passionate about mental health advocacy, the integration of psychedelics in treatment, and improving access to care for underserved populations.
