Dr. Amie Kafer, DO, MSW
Dr. Amie Kafer is a board-certified psychiatrist with a strong background in both medical and social work. She is dedicated to providing comprehensive psychiatric care to underserved populations in the Phoenix area. Dr. Kafer is particularly passionate about working with individuals living with HIV, offering PrEP services, and delivering gender-affirming care, ensuring that all individuals receive the mental health support they need to thrive.
Dr. Kafer’s journey began as a social worker in 1999 at Maricopa Integrated Health System (now Valleywise Health), where she worked in the psychiatric units. After realizing her deep interest in psychiatry, she pursued her medical degree at Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed her residency in psychiatry at Valleywise Health, where she now serves as an attending psychiatrist.
In her current role, Dr. Kafer practices outpatient psychiatry at the Valleywise McDowell Clinic, where she is committed to providing quality care to diverse patient populations. Her professional interests include treating mental health issues in individuals with chronic medical conditions, providing trauma-informed care, and advocating for those who may not have access to traditional mental health services.
